Lauren Cooper is a Partner at Villarreal Hutner PC. Lauren has devoted her entire career to providing litigation and counseling services to employers. Lauren's litigation experience includes defending California and national employers in connection with a wide range of issues in employment law, including discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful discharge, failure to accommodate, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault and battery, unfair business practices, fraud and wage and hour claims. She has litigated case under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination and Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, and various provisions of the California and Federal Labor Codes.
Lauren also regularly advises employers in connection with employment decisions, including personal policies, wage and hour compliance, and hiring, discipline and termination decisions. Lauren also assists clients in drafting employee handbooks, employment policies, executive and other employee offer letters, and severance agreements. Lauren has conducted training seminars, including wage and hour compliance and sexual harassment and diversity training an published articles on emerging employment issues.
Professional Qualifications and Activities
Prior to joining Villarreal Hutner PC, Lauren advised and defended national and local employers as an associate attorney with Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., Epstein Becker & Green P.C., and Lewis Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith. She is admitted to practice in all California courts and is a member of the State Bar of California. Lauren is also a member of the American Bar Association (Employment & Labor Law Section; Litigation Section) and the Bar Association of San Francisco.
During law school, Lauren clerked for California Superior Court Judge, Tomar Mason in San Francisco, California; and externed for the California Office of the Attorney General and San Francisco Public Defender's Office.
Before Law School...
Lauren wanted to be a lawyer starting at age 16 when she turned her college admission essay into a mock legal brief. She still loves being a lawyer and also enjoys cooking, eating and traveling.
